LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2013

TO:
Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB946 by Giddings (Relating to the reporting of information by a school district relating to certain offenses committed by students.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require school districts to report annually to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) data regarding certain offenses committed by students.

To implement the bill, TEA would have to add new data elements to the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS).

TEA estimates there would be minimal cost associated with implementing the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

Costs to collect and submit necessary data would vary depending on the size of the school district. School districts would experience costs to modify their data collection systems to accommodate the collection of the new data elements.
