LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
Revision 1

April 30, 2013

TO:
Honorable Lois W. Kolkhorst, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB947 by King, Susan (Relating to fraud, waste, and abuse in the supplemental nutrition assistance program.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to review the manner in which the office investigates fraud, waste, and abuse in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and coordinates with other state and federal agencies in the investigations. The bill would require the OIG to submit a report to the legislature on strategies for addressing fraud, waste, and abuse in SNAP.

The OIG at HHSC anticipates any additional work resulting from the enactment of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
