IN RE:	HB955 by Isaac (Relating to the penalty for the offense of reckless driving.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to create a Class B offense for reckless driving if serious bodily injury or death resulted. The bill would also permit a court to order a driver’s license suspension and completion of an approved driving safety course prior to reinstatement.

Local Government Impact

A Class B misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not more than $2,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days, or both.

Costs associated with enforcement, prosecution, and confinement; and revenue gain from fines imposed and collected would vary depending on the number of offenses committed, but are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication.
