LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 19, 2013

TO:
Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1083 by Dukes (Relating to the venue for prosecution of certain computer crimes.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would add an additional venue option for Penal Code Chapter 33 computer offenses so cases could be brought against a defendant in the county where the victim resides.   As the bill provides where a case could be brought, but would not change the total number of cases brought in the state, no additional judicial workload is expected. No significant fiscal impact to the courts is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
