IN RE:
HB1486 by Lavender (relating to the intercollegiate athletics fee at Texas A&M University--Texarkana; authorizing a fee.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill amends the Education Code relating to an intercollegiate athletics fee at Texas A&M University - Texarkana. Under provisions of the bill, the board of regents of the Texas A&M University System would be authorized to charge students at Texas A&M University - Texarkana an intercollegiate athletics fee up to $9.00 per semester credit hour. If certain conditions are met, the fee may exceed $9.00 and under provisions of the bill, the fee cannot be charged after the fifth academic year in which the fee is first charged unless certain conditions are met. Texas A&M University System estimates that if the fee was collected at $9.00 per semester credit hour, the fee would generate additional revenue in the amount of approximately $350,000 per fiscal year.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
