LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 21, 2013

TO:
Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1487 by Harper-Brown (Relating to the searchable state expenditure database maintained by the comptroller. ), As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require a state agency that makes a grant in an amount greater than $25,000 to make available to the public on the agency's Internet website information on the purposes for which the grant was awarded. The bill would require the agency to provide to the Comptroller of Public Accounts (Comptroller) a link to the information and would require the Comptroller to maintain the information on the Comptroller's Internet website through a central portal.

The Commission on Environmental Quality, Commission on the Arts, and Department of Agriculture indicate that the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources. The Comptroller estimates there would be a cost associated with implementing provisions of the bill. It is anticipated that the additional costs could be absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
