Honorable Garnet Coleman, Chair, House Committee On County Affairs
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1544 by Allen (Relating to the authority of a county to contract with a private vendor for the operation of a detention facility.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code to remove the 2.8 million or more population criteria for a county to be required to ensure that all contract services must meet or exceed standards set by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and receive written approval of the sheriff. Based on the applicability criteria, the provision would apply only to Harris County.
Local Government Impact
Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
