No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Business and Commerce Code to define "firearm" and "package," and would specify requirements for packaging notices for manufacturers of new firearms and firearm ammunition that sell or ship into this state. A person who violates the provisions would commit a misdemeanor offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $250.
According to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), the proposed legislation may result in new complaints, investigations and cases by the Consumer Protection Division of the OAG; however, it is anticipated that the increases could be absorbed utilizing current resources.
Local Government Impact
Costs associated with enforcement and prosecution could likely be absorbed within existing resources; and revenue gain from fines imposed and collected is not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact.
