IN RE: | HB1846 by Carter (Relating to suspension or denial of issuance or renewal of a license for failure to pay child support.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would amend the Family Code to limit the courts and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in the issuance of a stay for a license suspension related to nonpayment of child support. The bill would also provide that a licensing authority may not accept an application for issuance or renewal of a license from a child support obligor who has arrears unless the obligor has made an immediate payment of not less than $200 and is in compliance with the remainder of payments. The OAG indicates that it would need to update agency policies, procedures, and training materials; however, it is anticipated that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
