FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2013

TO:
Honorable Richard Peña Raymond, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1947 by Burkett (Relating to the criteria for commitment of a person with mental illness.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapters 571 and 574 of the Health and Safety Code relating to the criteria for commitment of a person with mental illness. The bill would add the definition of gravely disabled to the list of criteria for a judge to use when committing a proposed patient to receive court-ordered inpatient mental health services. Based on the analysis provided by the Department of State Health Services and the Office of Court Administration, it is assumed that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
