No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create a commission to prepare for the celebration of the of the state's bicentennial. The bill would require the commission to plan and coordinate state and local activities related to the celebration of the state's bicentennial. The commission would consist of 11 members including the chair of the Senate and House Higher Education Committees, the commissioner of higher education, the chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the chair of the Texas Workforce Commission, the chair of the governing board of an institution of higher education appointed by the governor, a trustee of a public junior college district appointed by the governor, two members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, and two members by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The bill also requires the commission to report on January 1 of each odd numbered year on its assessment of the state's ability to meet the future higher education and workforce needs of this state and its recommendations for meeting those needs. The commission would be abolished January 1, 2037.
