LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 26, 2013

TO:
Honorable Dan Branch, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2238 by Isaac (Relating to the name of Texas State University--San Marcos.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would change the name of Texas State University-San Marcos to Texas State University. The bill would amend various sections of the Education Code as it relates to the university including adding language that Texas State University includes campuses in the city of Round Rock in addition to the campuses in the city of San Marcos. Under provisions of the bill, the board of regents of the Texas State University System and the university would ensure that the name change would be implemented with as little unnecessary cost as possible, including to the maximum extent possible, the use of stationary and other consumable supplies that are printed with the university's former name. Based on information provided by the Texas State University System, the university does not plan on the replacing any signage and instead would remove the letter "San Marcos" if applicable. Therefore, any costs associated with the name change are not considered significant and will be absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
