Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2258 by Moody (Relating to the confidentiality of certain witness names listed in an indictment.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would allow the use of a pseudonum in an indictment instead of the name of the witness if nine members of the grand jury vote that disclosing the name of the witness would place the witness in danger of retaliation, or if the attorney representing the state claims the identity of informer privilege under existing Texas Rule of Evidence 508.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
