No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to reduce the population criteria from 2.2 million or more to one million or more in which a sheriff or a deputy sheriff would be eligible to apply for certification to enforce commercial motor vehicle safety standards. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) would establish reasonable fees to recover costs to certify its peace officers. Based on the applicability criteria, the provisions of the bill would only apply to Bexar, Tarrant, and Travis counties.
According to DPS, no fiscal impact is anticipated.

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
