HB2306 by Thompson, Senfronia (Relating to the permanent authority of certain voters to vote early by mail.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to allow certain voters to submit applications for permanent mail voter status. The bill would also require the Secretary of State (SOS) to prescribe procedures to implement the bill's provisions.
 
SOS indicated that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

Shelby County reported estimated costs totaling $35,000 in fiscal year (FY) 2014 related to one new staff. The county indicated the costs are anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact on the affected department's current budget of $75,000.
 
Fort Bend County reported estimated costs totaling $18,000 in FY 2014 and similar amounts in subsequent fiscal years related to additional printing and mailing. The county indicated the costs are anticipated to have a moderate fiscal impact on the affected department's current budget of $812,356.
 
Tarrant and Travis counties reported no fiscal impact.
