Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2663 by Farney (Relating to revocation of charters for certain open-enrollment charter schools.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Education Code to require the commissioner of education to revoke the charter of open-enrollment charter schools with certain academic or financial ratings. The Texas Education Agency indicates that the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resouces. The bill would become effective immediately upon approval by the appropriate voting majorities, or on September 1, 2013.
Local Government Impact
If charters are revoked under the provisions of the bill and campuses close as a result, the students in attendance on those campuses would move to other educational settings, resulting in a reallocation of funding associated with those students' attendance.
