No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Chapter 94A, Health and Safety Code, relating to the establishment of a state plan for Streptococcus pneumoniae education and prevention. Under the provisions of the bill, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is required to develop and update a state plan for Streptococcus pneumoniae education and prevention and update it at least every five years. The bill requires DSHS to seek input from stakeholder groups, including other Health and Human Services agencies, the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) and the Employees Retirement System (ERS), in developing the plan. The plan is required to include health education, public awareness, and information on the agency's website about the prevention, treatment, and detection of diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. TRS and ERS indicate that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources. Based on the analysis provided by DSHS, it is assumed that the agency could absorb these costs utilizing current resources.
