LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 2, 2013

TO:
Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3287 by Davis, Yvonne (Relating to driving safety courses for minors and adults.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would increase the number of behind-the-wheel hours of instruction required in a driver education course from 7 to 20. The bill would increase the number of hours of observation instruction required in a driver education course from 7 to 20.

This analysis assumes that any additional costs could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

School districts that offered driver education courses would be required to increase the required hours for behind-the-wheel and observation instruction from 7 hours to 20 hours, although these costs would vary between districts.
