LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2013

TO:
Honorable John Davis, Chair, House Committee on Economic & Small Business Development

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3662 by Clardy (Relating to the Texas Workforce Innovation Needs Program.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create the Texas Workforce Innovation Needs Program to provide selected school districts and public institutions of higher education with the opportunity to establish innovative programs designed to prepare students for careers for which there is demand in the state.

The bill would limit the number of school districts and institutions of higher education to participate in the program to no more than ten.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is expected to incur some costs related to the program, but these costs are not estimated to be significant, and the bill would authorize the Commissioner of Education to cover any costs of administering the program incurred by TEA with fee revenue collected from the program participants.

Local Government Impact

School districts and institutions of higher education could apply to participate in the program.
