LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 22, 2013

TO:
Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair, Senate Committee On Open Government

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB121 by Rodríguez (Relating to prohibited retaliation against state or local public employees for reporting to certain persons violations of law.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code, Section 554 to prohibit retaliation against state or local public employees for reporting law violations to certain persons including a supervisor or administrator of the government entity. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources. The Office of Attorney General (OAG) estimates there would be a minimal cost associated with implementing the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
