No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill directs the Commissioner of Education to authorize a special accreditation investigation in response to a complaint alleging inaccurate data reported through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) or other reports required by state law, federal law, rule, or court order that affect accountability or accreditation. The bill authorizes the issuance of a subpoena for a relevant witness or evidence related to such investigations.

The impact on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) would vary depending on the number of data complaints received that triggered new special accreditation investigations. Based on the analysis of TEA, duties related to the potential increase in special accreditation investigations could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
