No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 42 to require a defendant who has completed community supervision to complete payment of a court cost or fine if it the obligation was ordered by a judge and remains unpaid at the expiration of the defendant's supervision period. The Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA), the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) indicate that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency’s existing resources.
