SB396 by Hegar (Relating to the provision of state death benefits to certain employees of the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas and the Parks and Wildlife Department. ), Conference Committee Report

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to expand the eligibility of state death benefits to survivors of individuals employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) whose principal duties directly support a law enforcement function by the state or individuals with certain special assignments, as certified by the director. It is anticipated that any costs that any costs associated with implementing the bill could be absorbed within existing resources at the respective agencies.
 
The bill would take effect on September 1, 2013, and would apply only to deaths that occurred after that date.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
