Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB401 by Lucio (Relating to a notification requirement if a school counselor is not assigned to a public school campus.), Committee Report 2nd House, As Amended
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
A school district, including an open-enrollment charter school, would be required to post on its website a notice that no certified school counselor was available to a campus within 30 instructional days of the first day that the campus did not have a school counselor available. If the campus maintained a website, the campus would also be required to post the notice. The notice would have to be provided in a bilingual form, if possible.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. There would be some administrative costs to school districts and schools to provide notices on their respective websites and to keep copies for audit purposes. There could be additional costs if the notices had to be prepared in multiple languages to accommodate the various languages used by parents or guardians.
