FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 26, 2013

TO:
Honorable Leticia Van de Putte, Chair, Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB557 by Davis (Relating to a voluntary contribution to the fund for veterans' assistance when applying for a driver's license or personal identification certificate.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code and Government Code to direct the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to include provisions on each application for an original or renewal driver's license, or personal identification certificate, for a person to make a voluntary contribution to the Fund for Veterans Assistance 0368, and to provide a method for making such a contribution when renewing on-line. The bill would allow the DPS to deduct money equal to the amount of reasonable expenses for administering the new provisions specified in the bill. It is assumed the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current appropriations. The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
