No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Election Code to allow the governing body of a political subdivision to designate polling places located in the territory, or in and near the territory, of the political subdivision as the only polling places for any required runoff election if the political subdivision holds an election jointly with another election, and is required to use countywide polling places under Section 43.007.
The bill would also allow each commissioners court to establish countywide polling places for each primary election and runoff primary election if the county chair or county executive committee of each political party participating in a joint primary election agrees to use countywide polling places or if each political party required to nominate candidates by primary election agrees to use the same countywide polling places.
The Secretary of State indicates the provisions of the bill could be implemented within existing resources.
