LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2013

TO:
Honorable Dan Patrick, Chair, Senate Committee On Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB684 by Deuell (Relating to a physical assessment of students by a public school.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would remove the requirement that a school district annually assess the physical fitness of  students enrolled in grades 3 and higher, instead requiring physical fitness assessments in grades 3; 5; once in grades 6 through 8; and once in grades 9 through 12.

Local Government Impact

School districts that discontinued some annual physical fitness assessments for students in grades 6 and above might experience a reduction in administrative costs. Savings would vary widely depending on the number of physical fitness assessments conducted.
