The bill would amend the Government Code to allow the Attorney General, as well as Assistant Attorneys General, United States Attorneys, United States Assistant Attorneys, and Special Assistant United States Attorneys, to receive a concealed handgun license upon the sworn affirmation of handgun proficiency from a handgun proficiency instructor certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. The bill would amend the Penal Code to exempt the same officials, as well as federal judges, from the offense of unlawful carrying of a handgun by a concealed handgun license holder.
It is assumed any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current appropriations. The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.
