FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 21, 2013

TO:
Honorable Craig Estes, Chair, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs & Homeland Security

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB924 by Lucio (Relating to strategic plans to address hunger, food, nutrition, and obesity in this state.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Agriculture Code and the Education Code to require both the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to develop their own strategic plans to address hunger, food, nutrition, and obesity in the state. Additionally, the bill would amend the Government Code to require the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) within its strategic plan to develop the same goal for HHSC, the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, and the Department of State Health Services. Both TDA and TEA indicated the implementation of the bill would result in minimal costs to the agencies. This estimate assumes each of the above agencies could implement the bill within existing resources. No significant fiscal impact to the state is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
