LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2013

TO:
Honorable Kel Seliger, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB976 by West (Relating to the temporary approval of an institution to participate in the tuition equalization grant program.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would allow the Higher Education Coordinating Board to temporarily approve a private or independent institution of higher education to participate in the Tuition Equalization Grant Program. Based on information from the Higher Education Coordinating Board, one institution would qualify to participate in the program, if provisions of the bill went into effect in the fall of 2013. The amounts disbursed to students attending this institution are not significant compared to state appropriations for the program. Therefore any impact on general revenue funds is not considered significant to the state.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
