LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2013

TO:
Honorable Dan Patrick, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1408 by Patrick (Relating to public school performance ratings that reflect acceptable and unacceptable performance.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require district and campus performance ratings to be based on an A through F scale, as determined by the commissioner of education. The commissioner would be required to notify districts that had earned a rating of D or F. The bill would require the commissioner to adopt rules that assigned letter grades weighted towards improvements in student achievement measures.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Education Agency, costs to implement the provisions of the bill are not anticipated to be significant.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
