No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 241 of the Health and Safety Code, related to increased oversight by the Department of State Health Services of hospitals that commit certain violations. The bill would give the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) authority to direct a plan of correction for certain deficiencies related to reportable and potentially preventable adverse events at hospitals. DSHS has indicated that any increased regulatory functions due to the enactment of the bill would be absorbed within current resources. The bill would apply only to events that occur on or after the effective date of September 1, 2013.
