LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2013

TO:
Honorable Dan Patrick, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1608 by Van de Putte (Relating to restricting certain state and school district assessments of public school students in prekindergarten and kindergarten.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would prohibit the Texas Education Agency, the State Board of Education, or a school district from requiring the administration of a criterion-referenced or norm-referenced assessment instrument to students in prekindergarten or kindergarten.

This analysis assumes that any additional costs could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
