IN RE: | SB1620 by Paxton (Relating to certified Communication Access Realtime Translation providers.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend Chapter 57 of the Government Code relating to certified Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers. The bill would include CART providers as an option when a motion for the appointment of an interpreter is made in court. The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) would be required to maintain a list of certified CART providers and upon request, send the list to a person or court.
The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2013.
The Department of Licensing and Regulation and DARS do not anticipate any significant fiscal impact as a result of complying with the provisions of the bill.
