No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Chapter 166 of the Health and Safety Code relating to advance directives for persons with mental illness. The bill would detail the requirements and format for completing the written advance directive for a person with mental illness. Based on the analysis provided by the Department of State Health Services, it is assumed that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all members; otherwise the effective date is September 1, 2013.
