FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2013

TO:
Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1839 by Whitmire (Relating to the detention of certain juvenile offenders.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would eliminate the requirement that juveniles certified as adults and confined in county jails to be sight and sound separated from adult inmates.  In addition, county jails would no longer be required to have separate detention staff for certified juveniles.

Local Government Impact

The bill would result in cost savings to county jails; however, savings are not anticipated to be significant.
