Pursuant to a notice posted on March 10, 2014, the House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Lewis, at 10:05 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Lewis; Farney; Hernandez Luna; Hunter; King, Ken; Raymond; and Thompson, Senfronia.
A quorum was present.
Interim Charge: Regional Presiding Judges
The Committee took testimony on Interim Charge number 6: Study the issue of whether Regional Presiding Judges should be appointed by the Chief Justice rather than the Governor.

Interim Charge: Agency Testimony
The Committee took testimony on Interim Charge number 7: Conduct legislative oversight and monitoring of the agencies and programs under the committee’s jurisdiction and the implementation of relevant legislation passed by the 83rd Legislature.

Interim Charge: Appellate Court Qualifications & Term Lengths
The Committee took testimony on Interim Charge number 1: Examine the constitutional qualifications and term lengths for appellate court judges, and consider whether changes would benefit the public and the judiciary.
