Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs & Homeland Security was held on Monday, January 28, 2013, in the Senate Chamber.

A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Homeland Security and the Senate Committee on Education was held to discuss school safety proposals and ways to prevent acts of violence in Texas schools.

Senators Estes and Patrick, as Co-Chairs, shared presiding duties throughout the hearing.

Senator Estes called the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Homeland Security to order at 2:55 PM.

Senator Patrick called the Senate Committee on Education to order at 2:56 PM.  The following business was transacted:

The committees heard invited and public testimony on the topic of school safety. Witnesses registering and providing testimony on are shown on the attached list.

The Co-Chairs moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 5:52 PM Senator Estes moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 5:52 PM Senator Patrick moved that the Senate Committee on Education stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
