Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce was held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Senator Carona's Desk.

The chair called the meeting to order at 1:40 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 52.

 

Senator Carona moved that HB 52 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 2 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 796.

 

Senator Carona moved adoption of the committee substitute to HB 796; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that HB 796 do not pass but that CSHB 796 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 8 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.

 

Senator Watson moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 1:44 PM Senator Watson assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 2294 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Carona, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Carona sent up a committee substitute to HB 2294; the chair recognized Senator Carona to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the House bill as engrossed. Senator Carona moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Carona moved that HB 2294 do not pass but that CSHB 2294 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 7 ayes, 1 nay, 1 present not voting, and 0 absent.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 2758.

 

Senator Carona moved that HB 2758 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent.

 

Senator Carona moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 1:46 PM Senator Carona resumed the chair.

 

Senator Carona moved to adopt a motion in writing from Senator Whitmire; without objection, it was so ordered.
