Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Government Organization was held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Betty King Committee Room at Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The Chair made opening remarks and noted that the hearing was an organizational meeting to define priority issues of the committee and to discuss the committee hearing schedule.
The Chair presented Senator Charles Schwertner with a gavel and sound block, commemorating his appointment as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Government Organization.
The Chair invited committee members to provide opening remarks and to introduce their respective Government Organization Policy Analysts. Accordingly, Senator Schwertner introduced Tom Holloway; Senator Birdwell, Anna Paulson; Senator Rodríguez, David Stout; Senator Paxton, Tom Smith; and Senator Taylor, Colby Beuck.
The Chair introduced the Committee staff for the 83rd Legislative Session, namely, Rachel McClure, Committee Director; Gonzalo Serrano, Committee Clerk; and Sarah Brownstein, Policy Analyst.
The Chair laid out the proposed committee rules for consideration; Senator Schwertner moved their adoption. There being no objection, the motion was adopted by unanimous consent.
There being no further business, at 8:06 a.m., the Chair announced that the committee would stand in recess, subject to the call of the Chair.
