Amend Floor Amendment No. 379 by Canales to CSHB 1 (page 212, prefiled amendments packet) by striking item (3) of the amendment and substituting the following:

(3)  Add the following appropriately numbered rider following the Article V appropriations to the Department of Public Safety:

____. DNA Testing and Storage: Border Counties. Out of funds appropriated to the Department of Public Safety above in Strategy E.1.1, Crime Laboratory Services, the department shall allocate $2,000,000 for each year of the state fiscal biennium ending August 31, 2017, to be used for:

(1)  DNA testing and DNA database storage for cases involving unidentified human remains that are discovered in any county a portion of which is located within 100 miles of an international border; and

(2)  issuing grants to universities and appropriate counties and local law enforcement agencies to assist the department in providing DNA testing and DNA database storage for cases described by Subdivision (1).
