AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

H.B. 744 amends current law relating to the purchase of certain insurance by public school districts.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 38.024(a), Education Code, to authorize the board of trustees of a school district, in compliance with this section, to obtain insurance against bodily injuries sustained by students while training for or engaging in interschool athletic competition or while engaging in school-sponsored activities, rather than while engaging in school-sponsored activities on a school campus.

 

SECTION 2.  Provides that this Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.

 

SECTION 3.  Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
