BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Concerns have been raised about
a current statutory requirement that certain county bail bond boards meet at
least once a month, regardless of whether such a meeting is necessary.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT
It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS
C.S.H.B. 885 amends the Occupations Code to increase from less than 50,000 to less than 150,000 the population threshold of a county to which the requirement that a county bail bond board meet at least four times each year during specified months at the call of the presiding officer applies and to require a board in a county with such a population to meet at other times at the call of the presiding officer.
