BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Currently, the commissioners court of a county may donate up to $25,000 each year to a crime stoppers or crime prevention organization, regardless of county population. C.S.H.B. 3067 seeks to allow the commissioners court of a county with a certain minimum population to donate up to a higher maximum amount.

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

ANALYSIS
C.S.H.B. 3067 amends the Local Government Code to raise from $25,000 to $100,000 the cap on the total amount the commissioners court of a county with a population of one million or more may donate in a calendar year by contract to one or more crime stoppers or crime prevention organizations for expenditure by the organizations to meet the organization's goals.
