AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Interested parties explain that associations of regional governments in Texas, commonly known as councils of government, regional planning commissions, or development councils, consist of city and county leaders who work together for the betterment of the entire region. These organizations are required to offer a member of the legislature who represents a district located in the applicable region membership in the organization as a nonvoting, ex officio member. However, the parties contend that this requirement does not provide for each legislative member who represents a district in the region to be offered that membership. H.B. 3167 addresses this issue by amending the applicable law.

H.B. 3167 amends current law relating to the governing bodies of certain local planning organizations.
