AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Interested parties explain that the current law authorizing a state agency to consider advanced Internet-based computing service options when making purchases for a major information resources project was originally intended to refer to cloud computing, but until recently the term was not clearly defined. H.B. 3707 seeks to amend the applicable law to address this issue.

 

H.B. 3707 amends current law relating to cloud computing services.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Section 2157.007, Government Code, as follows:

 

Sec. 2157.007. New heading: CONSIDERATION OF CLOUD COMPUTING SERVICE PURCHASE. (a) Defines "cloud computing service," rather than "advanced Internet-based computing service."

 

(b)-(d) Changes references to advanced Internet-based computing service options to cloud computing service options.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2015.
