AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

This bill authorizes certain county sheriffs to inspect commercial vehicles to enforce federal safety regulations.

 

As proposed, S.B. 58 amends current law relating to the enforcement of commercial vehicle safety standards by certain counties.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Section 644.101(c), Transportation Code, to provide that a sheriff or deputy sheriff of a county bordering the United Mexican States or of a county with a population of 700,000, rather than one million, is eligible to apply for certification under this section.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2015.
