AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Despite a statutory requirement that all public schools have automated external defibrillators (AED) on campus and make available AED training for volunteers and district staff, the only people on campus required to be trained in using an AED in schools are school nurses, assistant nurses, and athletic personnel. This limitation means that a school is not required or encouraged to offer the AED training to a significant number of personnel on a school campus during the majority of the school day.
S.B. 382 directs the State Board for Educator Certification to allow educators to receive continuing education credit for completing an instructional course on the use of an AED.
S.B. 382 amends current law relating to public school educator continuing education credit for instruction on the use of an automated external defibrillator.
