AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Many political subdivisions that hold their elections on the May uniform election date would like the opportunity to move their elections from the May uniform election date to the November uniform election date with the adoption of a resolution by the political subdivision.
S.B. 733 amends Section 41.0052, Election Code, to enable political subdivisions to take such action if the boards of directors of the political subdivisions believe that such action would be in the best interest of the political subdivisions and the taxpayers they represent. This is an effort to save taxpayer money through consolidation of local elections where possible, all while improving voter awareness and participation.
S.B. 733 amends current law relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to change the date of their general elections.
