AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Subsection (1) of Section 61.501 (Definitions), Education Code, defines "medical school" for the purposes of medical residency programs.  By 2017, several new medical education programs will begin operation in Texas. S.B. 1466 amends the definition to include new medical education programs in Texas and to update the names of existing programs.

 

S.B. 1466 amends current law relating to the definition of medical schools for medical residency programs.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Section 61.501(1), Education Code, to redefine “medical school” to include certain medical education programs.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
